Our hearts are broken, yet again. Since Emmett was diagnosed, a few families have reached out to us that also have sons that battled cancer. Stephen passed in April and we were crushed. Our hearts ache and tears flow again today as we found out that sweet Keith also passed this morning.
Stephen's parents live not far from us in Albuquerque and their son had been diagnosed with AT/RT a few months before Emmett. Their kindness in answering questions and giving us guidance before we left was such a blessing. I give them full credit for helping us realize that making the sacrifice to leave home was the best option for Emmett and we've had no regrets since. Their knowledge and advice was priceless at a time when we didn't even know what questions to ask.
Keith's parents used to live in the Boston area and knew my family and other friends here. Soon after we arrived in Boston for Emmett's treatment we received a sweet package and a long letter from them that we will treasure forever as it changed our perspective on Emmett's situation and helped us see even clearer some of the small miracles in our lives. Recognizing the little miracles gives us peace and hope that Heavenly Father is aware of Emmett and our prayers. We were looking at their blog one day and I pointed to Keith's NG tube and then pointed to Emmett's and he got excited when he realized he was not alone. At each new picture of Keith, Emmett would get animated and point to his own tube on his cheek. From a few feet away, Micah even mistook Keith's picture for Emmett.
We call both of these families our friends though we have only met Stephen's dad in person. Their support has been so meaningful to us and we have looked to them for strength and hope and pray now that they will be given peace and strength on those days that are unbearable and that their memories of their sons stay vibrant and strong.

You're always in our thoughts and prayers - especially as Wednesday approaches. We continue to pray for miracles and above all faith, peace and courage.
