Boston

We made it to Boston today. It was a really long day! We only got two hours of sleep Friday night. Many thanks to the Hoopers for offering to get up at 4:00 am to take us at the airport in time for our 6:30 flight -- they've been great. Dinner three times in the past two weeks, Stacey spent a day cleaning our house, videos/movies/entertainment -- on all counts they've been amazing. So glad we got to know them so well the week before Emmett was diagnosed.

We got on the plane with no issues. During our layover in Baltimore we got lunch and a Jamba Juice, and a guy gave Emmett a bag of Doritos which he enjoyed more than anything else we gave him to eat. It was fun showing Emmett the airplanes landing and taking off. He always loves looking and pointing at planes in the sky, and I was hoping he'd make the connection that the planes we watched taking off and landing were the same planes he watches in the sky. The next step is to realize that we had been flying in a plane ourselves that day...I think that connection is still a little beyond him, however.

When we got in it took quite a while to get our luggage, and then one of our bags was damaged (zippers ripped off). I just bought the bag yesterday! I was so upset! I went to the baggage office and Southwest said that unless your bag is sliced in half, they'll do nothing for you. So frustrating!

Mom, Dad, and Cris had all come to pick us up. The sun was still up and it was pretty warm. They've had a very mild winter here. When we got home they had a bunch of stuff for us. Care packages in our room including a medical kit with a stethoscope and blood pressure band for lil' doctor to play with! He put the probes on himself and everything. Betsy had also bought a monster truck car for him to play in, and Dad and Cris had it all assembled and ready to go! (after Betsy saw how much he loved the car the Capeners got him she had to have a truck waiting for him here in Boston). Cris had made an amazing flank stake dinner, and we had apple crisp and ice cream for dessert. It will be good to be at home-albeit a new home-while we go through the challenges that lie ahead. I know it will take some time for us to adjust to a new routine and feel completely comfortable, but I know undoubtedly that this is a million times better than being on our own at St Jude.

It's never been better to be in Boston.
