Something's up...

February 26, 2012: For those who haven't already heard, we are in the hospital with Emmett (Little Muncher (LM), our 17-month-old son) who had to come in for emergency surgery to remove a tumor that was found compressing his spinal column last week. We first discovered something was wrong when he stopped walking on Wednesday night, and by Thursday he wouldn't use his left leg at all. We took him to the doctor and they sent us straight to the hospital for further testing. They identified a tumor that was wrapped around his spinal cord just above his shoulder blades by midday Friday, and within an hour they took him in for emergency surgery (the surgeons were worried that any delay might result in permanent damage to his spinal column/paralysis).

MRI image of the tumor inside the spinal column. His back is on the right, head at the top facing left. The slice goes right through the middle of his vertebrae so the white on either side is them wrapping around the spinal column.

At this point the doctors don't know whether it's cancerous or not. The surgeon said it didn't look like cancer, but we won't know for sure until the results of the pathology come in.

We're still in the hospital as he recovers. And probably will be for at least a few more days.

We've been touched by all those who have reached out to support us in this trying time. Thank you so much for your love and support! We appreciate your prayers and faith and know the Lord is watching over us during this difficult time as evidenced by many tender mercies we've received.
